The Huntly Relay for Life to raise funds for Cancer Research UK takes place this weekend. I’ll be talking along with a host of other folk from the North East, do come and join us if you can. The event raises money for Cancer Research UK and last year’s was great fun. We will have a large information marquee, with information on local cancer support charities. If you would like a stall at the event, please contact me, the more [...] UCAN, the local charity that supports people with urological cancers (kidney, bladder prostate and testicular) are looking for sponsors for a race night to be held in Aberdeen Northern Hotel on Friday the 16th of April 2010. I’ve not been well and as this is a one man operation, there is no one to cover for me. Anyway, things are back to normal around here so, if you’ve any topics you’d like me to cover, please send me an [...] As the title says, this isn’t about cancer but it is about science, on Monday the 15th of February, there will be a talk at Foresterhill about diabetes, over 22, 000 people in Grampian have diabetes so this will probably be of interest to a lot of people. The talk is open to anyone [...] This one is for the scientists, the Scottish Chromatin group are having a meeting next Wednesday (the 10th of February 2010). The meeting is being held at the University of Edinburgh from 2pm-6pm, so obviously if you are in (0r near) Edinburgh you can just go along. The concert raises funds for the children’s cancer charity CLIC Saergent. The UK government has a website called “Science and Society in the UK“, it is part of the Department for Business Innovation and Skills. They want to improve build public confidence in science and improve science communication. Apparently some expert groups are drawing up “action plans”. It’s a festival of science and technology in and around Aberdeen. They are short lectures with time for debate and discussion at the end. The next talk ties in with TechFest 2009 and is given by Dr Wendy Marsden from the University of Edinburgh on “Need Enhancing?
