What will I learn?
This intensive one day course is an introduction to cancer. You will learn about human cells and DNA. We will talk about different tests and treatments for cancer such as surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. We’ll also consider clinical trials and complementary treatments.
You don’t need to have any experience of biology to take this course, but we will cover a lot of information in one day so it will be challenging.
Please Note, this course is a general introduction to cancer. If you want specific information on one particular type of cancer, please consider booking a private one to one session where you will have more time to discuss issues in depth.

- 9:30 am-10 am Coffee and Registration
- 10 am – 10:15 am Introductions
- 10:15 -11 am What is cancer? Cells, DNA and Genes
- 11- 11:30am Coffee
- 11:30 – 1 pm How is cancer diagnosed? Common Treatments and Tests.
- 1 – 1.45 pm Lunch
- 1.45 pm -3pm Drug treatments for cancer (including chemotherapy)
- 3.15 pm-4.30pm Cancer in the news, trials and complementary treatments
How will I benefit?
You will gain a better understanding of how cancer develops. You will be better placed to understand the technical terms used by doctors and other health-care professionals. You will also be able to judge news reports about cancer research and know where to look to find further information.
The course will be delivered by short presentations, often with slides, there will also be time to discuss topical cancer related news stories.
Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate of attendance.
Where is the one day course held?
£95* for the one day course
£25 non refundable deposit, payable in advance is required to secure your place.
*Concessionary Rate of £75 for the full day course, available to those registered unemployed or claiming job seekers allowance; those receiving disability living allowance, incapacity benefit or invalid care allowance or those over 60. A £25, no refundable deposit is required to secure your place.
** For those traveling from further afield, it may be possible to arrange a private one to one session either before or after the course. If booked at the same time as the course then a discounted rate of £130 for both would apply. Please contact us for further details and to check timings.
