CLAN in Aberdeen and Area

shire-map-webCLAN, Cancer Link Aberdeen and North is a cancer support service, based in Aberdeen. It’s open to anyone affected by cancer including partners, carers, parents and children. You can read more here.

So what sort of support is available? The centre has a library and you can visit without making an appointment. They have a coffee morning on the first Wednesday of every month, they run relaxation and yoga classes. You can also take part in a visualisation group or craft classes including drawing and painting. Further information and times can be found on their “Events” page.

CLAN also offer support services to children and young people and run a monthly group for children who have a family or friend affected by cancer. They also offer weekly benefits advice in partnership with Macmilllan.

CLAN also offer a range of complementary and alternative treatments, some of which have no or very little scientific evidence to support them. If you are interested in the evidence for and against complementary medicine have a read of Trick or Treatment?

Do I have to travel to Aberdeen? No, some of the services (e.g. for children, can take place at their school) and there are outreach centres around Aberdeenshire

It is also worth knowing that CLAN also provide CLAN Haven, a bed and breakfast for people who have to travel to Aberdeen for treatment and the people accompanying them. Have you made use of any of the services at CLAN? What did you think?
