Medical Talks at Aberdeen University

shire-map-webI thought I’d let you know about three talks coming up at Aberdeen University in November. They are about medicine and disability (not cancer) but all of them look interesting.  The first one is on Friday the 13th of November from 6:30pm to 9:30pm, it is an evening of story telling called “Five centuries of medicine in Aberdeen” and is being held to raise funds for kidney research at Aberdeen University. As it is a fund raiser it costs £40 per person and you need to register in advance.

The second talk is by Aberdeen graduate Karen Drake, called “Disability is a state of mind, not a state of body” Karen was paralysed from the chest down when she fell from a cliff at the age of 21, since then she has cycled across the Himalayas, sea kayaked a thousand miles of coastline from Canada to Alaska and skied across the Greenland ice cap. Her next challenge is to ski to the South Pole. The talk is on Monday the 16th of November at 6:30pm.  Admission is free but you need to register.

The third talk is by Prof. Hugh Pennington called “Learning lessons is hard; Making predictions is difficult” He will talk about E.coli outbreaks and influenza pandemics. The talk is on Friday the 20th of November at 5:30pm. Again, admission for this one is free but you do need to register in advance.

Have you been to any events like this at Aberdeen University?  What did you think?
