Okay, this is not strictly a cancer post, more of a science/general interest post. Cafe Scientifique, sounds posh and complicated, but it’s not! Basically, you go along to a coffee shop/bar, listen to someone talk for a short while and then you get to argue with them!
The speakers are usually scientists, but it’s not like a lecture, its more about debate and exchanging ideas. The speakers are not paid for attending (although they may have their travelling expenses covered) They’ve been running all over the UK since 1998, but they’ve only just started in Aberdeen! You can find out more about the Aberdeen Cafe here.
The Aberdeen talks are held in Waterstones, on Union Street (near the Trinity shopping centre/Pizza Hut) on the second Wednesday of the month and they start at 7pm (you can download a flyer here for more information)
I think the next talk looks interesting, it’s called Metal Mania-So you think you need supplements? It’s given by Prof Harry McArdle, from Aberdeen University. The talk is next week (Wednesday the 8th of April 2009) and starts at 7pm.
Have you been to a cafe scientifique event? Was it good, bad or indifferent? Please feel free to leave a comment below.
