I want to tell you about a useful website called “Health Talk Online“. It was started by two medical doctors, and it tells you about diseases and treatments from a patient and carers point of view.
It is a high quality website, the information is collected by researchers at the University of Oxford. The researchers are trained social scientists and they often interview 40-50 different people per subject to make sure they have got an accurate viewpoint of people in the UK. The interviews are recorded, written out and approved by the patient. The copyright of the interviews belongs to the University of Oxford. This sort of research is called qualitative research. If you are interested in the technical details of this sort of research you can read Making sense of qualitative data analysis.
The website covers a whole host of disease and conditions, including cancer. It is an realistic view of a wide range of experiences, some people thought their doctors were wonderful, some people thought they were rubbish and they say so. It also discusses making choices about treatment and telling family and friends (with specific interviews on eight different types of cancer (breast, cervical, colorectal, lung, lymphoma, ovarian, prostate and testicular.)
Please let me know if you think it’s useful, or if you think it’s too much information.

If you are more impressed with the images than the text “
