It is being run by Dr Margaret McLean, a Macmillan psychologist and runs for 8 weeks. You can get more information here (it’s a pdf and a bit slow to load).
Mindfulness as an approach to healthy living, was first pioneered in America by Dr Jon Kabat Zinn, you can read more about him at Wikipedia.
For a description of a mindfulness meditation have a read of the BBC Health site. The Cancer Research UK website has some general information on meditation and cancer, which makes the point that anyone can call themselves a meditation teacher and that there is no evidence that meditation can prevent, treat or cure cancer (or any other disease). However, they do point out that meditation can reduce pain, anxiety, feeling sick and feeling tired and for those reasons, many people with cancer find it beneficial.
